Linking Afghan Police and US Troops, Part II

Last month, we told you about the first batch of radios Spirit of America provided for Afghan Uniformed Police (AUP) and Afghan Local Police (ALP) in the Zhari district of Kandahar Province. These brave men were working to secure one of the most dangerous parts of the country, but they had no way to communicate with each other or with American forces. When the US forces working in the district told us about this problem, we were able to bridge that gap by giving the Afghan police's key leadership handheld radios.

Based on the positive feedback we received regarding that initial shipment from that US Army unit, Spirit of America sent over additional radios to create an even stronger communications network throughout the district. As of today, the police in Zhari District have over seventy radios that allow them to communicate effectively amongst themselves and with their US partners to create a far stronger security presence than before. After receiving and distributing this second set, the American soldiers told us "the support from Spirit of America has allowed unprecedented achievements in an area that has never had this level of security before. Spirit of America, the radios that you have been gracious enough to send are in the hands of these courageous policemen. They have greatly improved the communication gaps that we have experienced for far too long. Both the Afghan National Security Forces and International Security Assistance Force thank you immensely for all that you have done to support efforts towards fighting the Global War on Terror and freeing Afghanistan from the Taliban insurgents."
