New Book Shows How Americans Can Help in Afghanistan

The programs profiled represent 65 different non-profit humanitarian organizations, including Spirit of America. The book tells extraordinary stories of life on the ground and offers 101 programs that can greatly benefit from a few dollars or a few minutes of a person’s time

LOS ANGELES, California—December 28, 2008—Debary native Jonathon Kissam, Army Specialist and Chaplain Assistant currently stationed in northern Iraq, has taken on the task of adopting an orphanage. Along with his supervising officer, Captain Steve Dunn, SPC Kissam has begun to seek organizations that provide items such as blankets, children’s shoes, toys, and other necessities that make life in an Iraqi orphanage a bit more bearable.

These range from common sense actions such as not providing identifying details on a blog to the technical, such as the use of proxy servers.

Spirit of America, a 501c3 nonprofit organization supported solely through private-sector contributions, has developed a holiday media campaign to bring awareness to the American people of the need to support our military personnel in the important work that they are doing in the Middle East.

The "Freedom" campaign, which launches the week of Nov. 21, will run through the holidays with television and radio appearances by the campaign honorary co-chairs, Senator John McCain and Retired General Tommy Franks. Other prominent Americans from government, business and entertainment/media, will also appear in Public Service Announcements on television, radio and the Internet.

Financial support will be provided to the tent city demonstrators on Martyrs’ Square in Beirut through local protest organizers so that demonstrators can keep pressure on the foreign occupiers and world attention on the struggle for Lebanese independence. The fund will support the tent city demonstrators by supplying food, water, shelter and other basic necessities.
